Sunset eFoil sessions in Ibiza: when to go and what it looks like

2026-09-01 · 3 min read

Ask anyone who rides here regularly which hour they would keep if they could only have one,

and they will all say the same thing.

This is about the sunset session specifically — timing, coast, light. For the full list

of riding locations by conditions, see

where to eFoil in Ibiza.

Why the evening water is different

Three things change at once in the last two hours of light, and they all help.

The wind drops. The embat — the thermal sea breeze that builds through most summer

afternoons — dies back as the land cools. Water that was choppy at 4pm often lies flat by 7.

The boats go home. Between 11am and 5pm every anchorage around Ibiza is collecting wake

from day boats. From about 6pm that traffic thins, and wake is worse than wind for a

first-timer.

The light goes long and orange. Which matters more than it sounds, because it is the

difference between a video you delete and one you send to everyone you know.

Sunset times worth planning around

Ibiza sunset, roughly:

| Month | Sunset | Golden hour starts |

|---|---|---|

| June | ~21:20 | ~20:15 |

| July | ~21:15 | ~20:10 |

| August | ~20:45 | ~19:40 |

| September | ~20:00 | ~19:00 |

| October | ~19:00 | ~18:05 |

Book the session to start about 90 minutes before sunset. That gives you the learning

part in good light and the best of it once you are actually riding, rather than spending

golden hour still on your knees.

Which coast

Obvious but worth saying: be on the west side. The sun sets over the water there, and

the whole point is riding into it rather than away from it.

The stretch looking out at Es Vedrà is the one people photograph. Cala Comte and the

water off that headland get the same light with slightly more shelter. The east coast —

Talamanca, Santa Eulalia — is beautiful in the morning and simply pointed the wrong way in

the evening.

San Antonio bay is the exception people always suggest and we usually decline: correct

sunset, wrong water. The sunset-cruise traffic in and out of San An arrives in sets through

exactly that hour.

Is a sunset session harder?

Slightly, and honestly so. The water is usually better but the light is behind you when you

look for the horizon, and once the sun is properly down you lose contrast on the surface

quickly.

For a first-ever session we would rather put you out in the morning and save sunset for your

second. If sunset is the only slot you have, it is entirely doable — just expect the last

fifteen minutes to be about riding rather than learning.

Filming it

The footage is half the reason people book this hour. What actually works:

What time should I book a sunset eFoil session?

Start about 90 minutes before sunset. In August that means roughly 19:15, in October

roughly 17:30. Check the date — it moves by nearly two hours across the season.

Is sunset a good time for a complete beginner?

It is a good time to ride and a slightly harder time to learn. If it is your first session

and you have the choice, take a morning slot and book sunset for the second one.

Do sunset sessions cost more?

They are priced on request because they are the most requested hour of the day. Standard

sessions are €190 an hour with the instructor included.

How far in advance should I book?

Sunset slots in July and August go first — several days ahead is sensible. In May, June and

October you can often get one the same day.
