What to wear and bring to an eFoil session
Short guide, because there is genuinely not much to it. Most people over-prepare for this
and then forget the one thing that matters.
What we provide
- Wetsuit (shorty in summer, full suit in the shoulder months)
- Impact vest — buoyancy and protection, worn the whole session
- The board, battery and throttle
- Insurance
- The instructor, in the water with you, for the full hour
You do not need to bring any equipment.
What to bring
Swimwear, worn under your clothes before you arrive. This is the one that matters.
Changing facilities at most of the spots we ride are a towel and good intentions. Arrive
ready.
A towel.
Reef-safe sun cream, applied 20 minutes before. You are on a reflective surface with no
shade for an hour. Put it on before the wetsuit goes on, not after.
Water. More than you think. You will not notice you are dehydrated until you are back
on the beach.
A friend with a phone, if you want footage. See below.
What to leave in the car
Jewellery, watches and rings. You will fall, repeatedly, into deep water. Things that
come off in the sea do not come back. A ring in three metres over seagrass is gone.
Sunglasses, unless they are on a secure strap and you accept the risk. Same reason.
Your phone, unless someone who is not riding is holding it. You need one hand for the
throttle and the other for balance. There is no third hand.
Contact lenses, if you can wear glasses the rest of the day instead. You will go
underwater with your eyes open at some point. Daily disposables are fine — bring a spare
pair. Hard lenses are a genuinely bad idea.
Filming it
The single most common regret is having no footage.
The best setup is straightforward: **someone on the beach or the boat with a phone, not the
rider.** Ask the instructor where to stand — they have filmed hundreds of these and know
which angle makes a two-second flight look like a two-second flight rather than a smudge.
If you want a chest or head mount, tell us in advance rather than turning up with it. Some
mounts are fine; some are a hazard when you fall, which you will.
Timing
Arrive 15 minutes before your slot. Kitting up and the briefing take about ten minutes,
and if you arrive at your start time you spend the first quarter of your hour on land.
Eat something an hour or two before, not immediately before. It is more physical than it
looks from the beach.
Do I need to bring a wetsuit?
No. Wetsuit and impact vest are included and we size them on the day. Tell us roughly your
height and build when you book and we will bring the right ones.
Can I wear my glasses on an eFoil?
Only on a secure sports strap, and accepting they might be lost. Contact lenses are the more
practical option — bring a spare pair of dailies.
Is the water cold enough to need a full wetsuit?
From June to October, no — August water sits around 26°C. The wetsuit is mostly for impact
protection rather than warmth. In April, May and late October a full suit is more welcome.
Can I bring a GoPro?
Yes, but tell us first so we can check the mount. A camera in your hand is not workable —
one hand is on the throttle and the other is doing the balancing.
Bring yourself, we do the rest
Wetsuit, vest, insurance and instructor all included. €190 an hour.
